People sometimes misunderstand the purpose of a debt collection agent. They sometimes feel harassed, fearful, annoyed, unsatisfied or worried. But let me take you on a debt collector’s daily journey to give you an idea of what we do and how we do it. Hopefully, you won’t be too afraid if and when we call you.

What does a Debt Collector Do?

Debt collectors gather data from the clients about the debtor and then analyze it to see the best approach to collect the debt. Then, if the information is sufficient, we contact the debtor right away. If not, we may need to gather more details to try and locate the debtor. Try to imagine looking for a specific person in a place with a population of over 24 million! Sometimes, it’s like a needle in a haystack.

Communicate with your Debt Collector

Once the debtor is located, the debt collector will call or send an email, reminding them about how the debt occurred. We politely introduce ourselves and provide the reason for the contact. Usually, this is just a reminder to make the debtor aware of the debt. We simply let you know that you need to be prepared about the collection. This will give you time to save, allocate time and prioritise funds in order to repay the debt.

The best thing you can do when a debt collector calls, is to answer immediately. We are not going to stop until we get a response, so you may as well answer. If the debt is unfair or you want to respond towards the allegation, we are here to listen. So it is best to work with the debt collector to avoid more serious repercussions, such as a bad credit rating. Disputes may be raised or even a counter offer can be made. The debt collector simply needs to have a conversation with you to know your end and how to resolve it.

Win-Win Scenario

Some people may tend to ignore or disregard the debt collectors calls or letters. What really happens is the debt collector is just trying to help you get a win-win scenario. We like to negotiate to help you find some middle ground so you can repay the debt comfortably. Don’t forget that we are on your side. We want to find a resolution that will avoid you to possible legal action against you. The quicker we resolve the situation, the better it is for you and for us.

The debt collector’s goal is to get your name cleared and credit history is clean. We help you to get the debts settled and to recover your financial status.

Getting Debts Sorted

Dave Ramsey said “You can’t be in debt and win. It doesn’t work.”He simply means that debt is a liability and liability is a responsibility. If you do not face your responsibility, then it can affect your financial stability which can result in a bad credit rating.

You may be amazed at how helpful debt collectors can be in offering assistance with your debt issues.
