I grew up in remote, outback Australia. So I recognise and appreciate the services of the Royal Flying Doctor Service in providing access for mental health and other services to those living remotely. Thankfully, I have not required the help of emergency services. I have known friends who have been injured or perished, who didn’t have the access to emergency services that I was fortunate enough to have in the past. DRA’s donation to the RFDS, enables us to ‘pay it forward‘ in the hope that they can provide the emergency services that someone may need one day.
If you want to donate, a great way to do it is to support The Outback Air Race. This is a GPS-based navigation time trial throughout the remote Australian outback. The Outback Air Race exists to raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Since 1996 competitors and spectators have raised over $2.1 million, with funds from each race going towards outfitting RFDS aircraft with essential medical equipment, vital for treating sick and injured patients.
Tim Little is a pilot for The Outback Air Race and he says, “In 2018 we will host 100 competitors in 41 aircraft, in which pilots like me nominate an elapsed time between two visual waypoints, receiving points for both time and location accuracy.
The Outback Air Race is held every three years with the next event being held from Sunday 19th August until Friday 31st August 2018. Starting in Archerfield, near Brisbane, QLD, and finishing in Broome, WA.”
